Intro

Hello and welcome to my sponsorship guide! This was inspired by katliente's free sponsorship guide which I first read in 2023 and used as a reference while cutting my teeth as a creator manager. There's still a lot of good stuff in kat's guide, but as I learned more over the years I decided to write my own to proof out the knowledge and make it not only a how-to for creators but also to demystify sponsorships.

While researching, it felt like most of the articles were written by a bot or AI generated, and nearly all of them were thinly veiled ads for their services. I certainly didn't find anything that put together all the pieces into a complete guide with answers and examples. This guide is my attempt at putting together something that's actually useful.

Background

I've worked mainly in vtubing and streaming. My knowledge is focused on YouTube and Twitch, and I almost no experience with Tiktok / Instagram. To keep the guide as concise as possible, it's intended for creators that fit the following description:

  • You're primarily a live streamer on YouTube / Twitch and make long- or short-form content on the side

  • You're okay with promoting products to your audience

  • You're pursuing full-time content creation and want sponsorship revenue to fund your projects

tl;dr if you're not a YouTuber or streamer, then you might not get as much use out of this guide.

The Basics

What are sponsorships?

Sponsorships are an agreement between a creator and a brand/company in which the creator is compensated in exchange for promoting the brand and its products. Products can include physical goods, media (games, music, video), programs, etc. — basically anything a company can make money from.

"Sponsorship" and "brand collaboration" are broad terms that can cover anything from one-time deals to longer-term partnerships, like affiliate programs and brand ambassadorships.
